I’ve been looking at some listings for the 2022 Ford Maverick, and wow, the prices seem pretty great. There’s a mix of hybrids and turbo models, and a lot of these are under $25K. The mpg on the hybrid is tempting, but I’m wondering if the turbo model might be better for highway driving. Anyone have one of these? How’s the ride comfort and reliability holding up after a few years?
I’ve had my 2022 Maverick hybrid for about a year, and it’s been solid. The mpg is amazing—I’m averaging over 40 mpg. The ride is a bit bumpy, though, especially on rough roads.

Over 40 mpg? That’s impressive! Does it feel underpowered when you’re merging onto highways?
@Vega
Not really, but it’s not quick either. The hybrid takes about 8.4 seconds to hit 60 mph. It’s fine for everyday driving but not zippy.
I went with the turbo model, and it’s definitely better for highway driving. Quick acceleration and no problem merging or passing. I’m averaging about 25 mpg, though, so keep that in mind.

How’s the reliability been? Any issues with the turbo engine?
@Mai
No issues so far! I keep up with regular maintenance, and it’s been running great. Just wish the mpg was closer to the hybrid’s.
Anyone else annoyed by the underseat storage design? It’s useful, but you have to take out car seats to get to it. Such a pain.

Wait, you can’t access the storage with car seats installed? That’s a dealbreaker for me.
@Avery
Yeah, the whole seat bottom has to come up. It’s a good space otherwise, but not convenient if you have kids.
Does anyone know if the XLT is worth the price bump over the XL? I’m debating between the two trims.

I went with the XLT, and I think it’s worth it for the extra features. You get more options for upgrades like the FX4 or Luxury package.
@Tatum
What’s the Luxury package include? Is it just tech stuff?

It adds things like heated seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and better driver aids like adaptive cruise control. Definitely makes the truck feel nicer.
For anyone considering towing, the hybrid maxes out at 2,000 lbs, but the turbo can tow up to 4,000 lbs if you get the towing package.

That’s good to know. Does the towing package include a trailer brake controller?
@Avery
Yep, the Maverick comes with a trailer brake controller if you get the package. It’s one of the things that sets it apart from the Hyundai Santa Cruz.
