There seems to be some rumors floating around that the 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid will offer AWD. For those of you who purchased a previous hybrid FWD model; I’m curious if any of you will be looking at selling it for the AWD if those rumors come to fruition? I live in Canada and purchased my XLT hybrid in 2021 at a great price and find the FWD okay in the winter, but I usually drive my Subaru during that season. I do love this truck all around though.
I love that it will have AWD, but I’m torn between waiting for the 2025 model or going for a discounted 2024. Either way, it’ll depend on the pricing and what tow package is available.
I’m not rushing to upgrade. My 2024 FWD hybrid works fine with snow tires in New England winters. I’d need to see a significant MPG gain or towing capacity increase to make it worth it.
I’ve driven my FWD hybrid in tough conditions on a ranch and never needed AWD. Unless you’re in extreme weather or terrain, you’re likely fine without it.
FWD trucks shouldn’t even be a thing anymore. If you’re using a truck for actual work—hauling, off-roading, or driving on muddy construction sites—AWD is a must. For people who don’t need that, just get a CR-V with a bike rack.
It really depends on the pricing and tow rating. If Ford makes the AWD hybrid with 4K towing and doesn’t price it ridiculously high, I’d consider trading my current hybrid.
Ford is smart to expand the lineup with AWD hybrid. Competition is heating up in this segment, so adding AWD to the hybrid is a good move to stay ahead.
Driving in northern Quebec during two-day snowstorms, I can tell you that FWD doesn’t cut it. AWD and ground clearance are non-negotiable for some of us.
FWD with snow tires is enough for 99% of conditions. I lived in Vermont for years and never had an issue. AWD hybrid might be overkill for most people.
If Toyota made a competitive truck with the RAV4 Prime’s PHEV system, it would wipe the floor with the Maverick. A 302HP AWD hybrid truck with Toyota reliability? Yes, please.
