After two years and 20,000 miles of ownership, here’s a comprehensive list of everything that has gone wrong with my 2022 hybrid Maverick:
Nothing.
I’ve completed all recalls as soon as they became available and, unlike some others, I’ve experienced zero issues. This truck continues to do everything I need it to do. It fits my family, handles project-related cargo, and tackles country roads leading to oilfields without breaking a sweat. Over this time, I’ve averaged 40.3 MPG (see image) and honestly can’t think of another vehicle that fits my needs as perfectly as this one does.
I occasionally miss my old Ranger, but the Maverick is objectively better suited for my life.
I wanted to share this positive experience because forums often highlight issues, giving the impression that problems are more widespread than they are. This isn’t to discount others’ issues but to offer a different perspective: It’s possible to have a trouble-free ownership experience with this vehicle.
At 27k miles, my only issue is that the tailgate cables seem too long, causing the tailgate to drop slightly. Planning to get it checked before 30k miles.
30k miles on my ‘22 hybrid. No mechanical issues so far. Had one trim part replaced under warranty and completed all recalls without a hitch. Debating whether to get the extended warranty.
22k on my ‘22 Lariat Hybrid. No major issues, just recall work (haven’t done the airbag one yet). Averaging 34.1 MPG with some high-speed toll road driving in Texas. Still loving it!
72k kilometers (about 45k miles) on my ‘22 hybrid, and I’ve had zero issues. Only complaint is that the tires are wearing faster than I’d like, but I plan to replace them soon anyway.
At 30k miles, I’ve had a few issues, including recalls, a valve cover oil leak, and rough engine transitions. Despite these, it’s still a versatile and efficient vehicle that meets my needs.
34k miles on my ‘23 hybrid. Dealer resolved axle shakes at 22k, and it’s been rock solid since. I drive on dirt roads daily, and this thing handles it like a champ—even with FWD!
10k miles on my ‘24. Had a battery issue due to phantom drainage from the infotainment screen (replaced under warranty) and reseated a headlight. Otherwise, it’s been great, averaging 39.5 MPG. Love the storage and overall utility!
