Anyone done a stereo upgrade for $300?

Tried the Rockville hideaway subwoofer and I’m so glad I went for it! It’s not shaking the block, but inside the cab, it’s way better now. I was originally looking at the Kicker 10” hideaway but came across a “Top 10 underseat subwoofer” list. The Kicker was like $300+ and ranked #6, while this Rockville was #2 at $140. Perfect fit under the seat too, no need to mount it, just set it flat. Kicker quality might be better, but for the price, I’m happy with this option.

Also upgraded my front speakers to PowerBass. Super easy to install, just plug and play. The clarity is way better, but I didn’t notice how much until I added the sub. I tapped into the rear speaker wires for the sub since it’s easier. Might tweak it more with Forscan later.

Tried to edit but no luck. Anyway, in the first paragraph, the #1 option was $600, and the Kicker was ranked #6. I’ll fix this later if the edit option shows up.

I’ve got a similar setup and love it. The stock speakers were so bad—probably the worst I’ve ever heard in a car.

Guess I’m easy to please because I don’t mind the stock speakers. I’m not really picky as long as they sound clear and balanced.

Nice! I think I went with the Kicker, mounted it behind the rear seat. Paid for professional installation since I didn’t want to deal with the hassle. Total was around $920. It’s so loud now! Kind of embarrassing for a middle-aged guy, but hey, Pantera sounds insane.

I’ve got the Rockville too, tapped into my B&O sub. Great value for the price. I also put a rug under it to cut down on vibrations.

Funny, I did the same thing! Right after posting this, I added some towels under mine to stop the vibrations. Huge improvement.

You can’t edit posts if they have pictures. It’s a weird rule.

Oh, that explains it. Thanks!

Just got a Maverick, and this info is coming at the perfect time. Thanks!

Congrats on the new ride!

I went with the Rockville 12-inch powered sub in the back seat for under $200. Honestly sounds better than my dad’s F150 or my mom’s Jag. I saw mixed reviews on Rockville, but for the price, I’m super happy with it.

@Neo
Wait, there’s a 12-inch version? Might have to try that next time.

@Neo
How’s it placed? Under the seat? Behind it? Or just sitting on the seat?

Thanks for sharing. I’m fine with the stock system, but my wife absolutely hates it.

Did you add any soundproofing when you installed the speakers? I’ve been holding off on mine because of rattling issues.

Nope. There’s a plastic barrier under the door panel, and I didn’t want to mess with it. Plus, I don’t push much bass to the door speakers since the sub handles it.

How hard was it to install the amp and sub? I already have PowerBass speakers but want a little more. Also, does the amp power all speakers or just the sub?

Sub install was easier than the speakers. The amp is built into the sub and powers only the sub.

@Talon
I’ll check out Rockville then. Are your door speakers getting enough power?

Also, how helpful was Forscan?
