Anyone driving in the snow with a hybrid?

Are you okay with using chains? Without AWD or 4x4, you might need them depending on the rules where you are. Caltrans, for example, requires snow tires or chains for 2WD vehicles. AWD hybrid Mavericks get through R-2 restrictions without chains, but winter tires are the safest choice overall.

Just get a good set of winter tires and you’re good to go.

It won’t match AWD, but good tires make FWD work in most situations. I drove FWD in Wisconsin for years, but it sucked. Switched to AWD and never looked back. Now you can get a hybrid with AWD, so why not go for it?

Winter tires and all-terrain tires aren’t the same. Snow tires can completely transform a vehicle’s ability in winter. I’ve seen people who thought they needed an AWD car realize that snow tires alone made their current vehicle much better in snow.
