Hey everyone, I’m torn between getting an XLT FX4 EcoBoost Maverick or just going with a regular SUV. I want to hear all the negatives, all the regrets, especially from those of you who use it for adventures. Or is the Maverick just that good?
I’m planning to use it for camping and family adventures around southern Utah. Not sure I’ll ever tow anything, but I can see myself using the bed for Home Depot runs and hauling my mountain bike. My logical side says SUV, but man, I’ve always wanted a truck, even a smaller one like this.
Edit:
Wow, thanks for all the comments! I didn’t expect this much feedback. Most of it is positive, with some normal complaints. Seems like a lot of you are happy and would even buy it again despite the quirks. The infotainment system sounds meh, but I think I’m sold. I’m going for it!
No regrets here. I’d buy it again if I had to. Mechanically, it’s been solid (I have the EcoBoost). There are some minor annoyances with features that feel like they could be fixed with software updates, but nothing that’s a dealbreaker.

What kind of annoyances? Are they related to Android Auto?
I’m not sure about Android Auto since I use CarPlay, but I think it’s the same. My main annoyance is that when I don’t use CarPlay, it always defaults to FM radio instead of Bluetooth audio. It’s just a couple of taps to fix, but I wish there was a way to set the default audio source.

The lower trims have a really basic infotainment system that’s frustrating to use. Mine freezes more often than I’d like, which is annoying, but generally, it works. Just not great.
I think of it as an SUV with a small bed. I made a bike rack for the bed using Ford’s instructions, which cost me $30 and fits two bikes with the tailgate closed. Haven’t tried three bikes yet.
I got the Hybrid in July. It’s been in the shop a few times for an issue that should’ve been fixed on the first visit, but my dealer ignored the service bulletin. Aside from that, no regrets. The ride is way smoother than my old VW GTI, and I’m getting the best MPG I’ve ever had.

Hybrid was what caught my eye first, but with snow in Salt Lake City and dealer markups, I’m leaning toward the EcoBoost.
The EcoBoost is still a great choice. I think it’s a solid buy, but if you’re paying above MSRP, I’d think twice. It’s a pretty basic truck, so overpaying might sour the experience. That said, it’s a lot of truck for the price.

No regrets. I totaled my ‘22 Hybrid last month and ordered a new one the following week. Same build and everything.
What’s the wait time looking like for new orders?
It depends. Some people are getting theirs in as little as four months, but I’m not holding my breath for that. My dealer had a Tremor available the same week, but it wasn’t the build I wanted.
I have an FX4 XLT in Utah with a family of four. It’s perfect for Home Depot runs and adventures. It can handle ‘adventure trails’ here, but not hardcore 4x4 trails.

Fellow Utahn here! Do you think it could handle White Rim Trail? That’s probably the most extreme I’d try with my family.
