Anyone tried enabling Sport Mode with FORscan?

New '24 XLT Tremor owner here. Still getting used to all the info on this forum, it’s been super helpful so far!

Thanks to everyone here, I just discovered FORscan and I’m pretty excited. I’ve done some small ECU mods before, but never had the chance to mess with the body control module. Always wanted to do that!

I’m interested in disabling auto start, turning off the headlights as default, etc. But I also saw someone mention adding a ‘Sport’ mode as a driver option.

Anyone know if that’s actually possible? I’d like to try it out if it’s worth it. I had Sport mode on my old F150 and ended up using it all the time for the better shift points and the extra engine braking down hills.

Is it possible? And if it is, do you think it’s worth adding?

Yep, I added it with FORscan. It’s pretty nice for those times you want a little extra power. Holds the revs longer and changes the shift points. Surprised me with how much of a difference it makes!

Wait, do some models not come with Sport mode?

Nope, FX4 and Tremor models don’t.

Any idea why they left it out?

Not really sure. Would’ve been great to have all the modes available on a dial or something.

@Sky
That’s wild. My basic XL hybrid has it.

Edit: Found a video that shows how to add it with FORscan.

Edit 2: Might get a cable to get rid of that double honk when getting out with the key.

@Jensen
Yeah, non-FX4 and Tremor get eco and sport modes from the factory. FX4 and Tremor have mud/ruts and sand instead.

FORscan is definitely worth the setup cost.

@Sky
Does the FX4 come with the advanced AWD like the Tremor? Maybe that has something to do with it.

Nope, only the Tremor has the advanced AWD. Might be more of a marketing choice than a hardware limit.

If you want to disable auto start-stop, you can just disconnect the Battery Monitoring System (BMS) from the negative terminal.

How to Add Eco & Sport mode to 2022 Ford Maverick FX4 using FORscan

@Zion
Appreciate the links, thanks!

Would it be possible to add mud/ruts or sand mode to my non-FX4? Not sure if it’d make sense to do it.

I haven’t done much with FORscan, but I looked into it before. From what I remember, all the trucks have all the modes available in the software, but only some are enabled based on trim.

I’ve got an FX4, so no eco or sport modes by default, but I could probably unlock them with FORscan.

@Micah
I know I could enable them, just not sure if it’d actually be helpful.

Won’t this mess with the warranty?

Only if the mod directly causes an issue that’s being claimed.

Didn’t expect the downvotes for a simple question! :person_shrugging:

@Quin
No worries! You’re just asking, it’s good to know. FORscan can be a bit confusing with warranty stuff.

Warranties don’t get completely voided for mods; each claim gets looked at on its own. If you lift the truck and the radio breaks, they can’t deny a claim to fix the radio. But if you have a mod that could’ve caused the issue, they can refuse.

Dealers can sometimes refuse claims, but you can go to the manufacturer if it seems unfair, and even escalate further if needed.

I’m still new to FORscan myself, mostly interested in the body computer mods, but I wonder if it can alter the ECU too. Sport mode might blur the lines a bit on drivetrain warranty, maybe related to why it’s not on certain trims.

@Laine
Thanks for the detailed answer!
