Are you happy with your Mav?

I currently drive a 2017 Ram 1500 Crew Cab with the Hemi. I’ve had it for about five years and really enjoy the truck. I’m in my early 30s, married with two younger children in forward-facing car seats.

I originally bought the Ram thinking we’d use it as a family vehicle, but we mainly take my wife’s Jeep or our minivan. Now, the truck mostly sits unused except for occasional light hauling.

I’m considering downsizing to a Maverick (AWD 2.0 EcoBoost, FX4 package) for better fuel efficiency and easier parking while still having a truck bed. I live in Northern Indiana, so snow performance is a factor.

For those who have downsized from a full-size truck, are you happy with your Maverick? How is reliability? How does it handle in the snow?

I love my ‘23 FX4. I lived in Iowa and now Nebraska. I off-road semi-frequently for work, and it’s done everything I need. I replaced the stock Pirellis with 235/70/17 Yokohama Geolanders, and it was a game-changer.

I have a ‘22 Hybrid FWD Maverick with 48K miles. It’s been through mild off-road situations, towed a 5x10 trailer for a few thousand miles, and gotten me everywhere I needed to go in NE Ohio. I didn’t bother with snow tires the first couple of years, which should say something about its snow handling.

Very happy with my ‘24 XL Hybrid. I test-drove the EcoBoost, and while it’s fine, I love how smooth the eCVT is in the hybrid compared to the 8-speed automatic. If you’re used to driving a manual, the hybrid’s power delivery feels way smoother.

The 4ft bed takes a little planning, but I make it work. I came from a full-size truck and don’t miss it. Gas mileage is unbeatable, and the Maverick is much easier to maneuver. I live in New England, and I think snow concerns are overblown. Modern FWD/AWD handles winter well unless you’re in extreme conditions.

I have a ‘22 Maverick. We take my wife’s CR-V for family trips because the Mav’s back seats are a bit tight. Also, the rear speakers are at ear height, so I have to adjust the sound settings when the kids are back there. But for solo commuting, it’s great.

FWD Hybrid does great in the snow, and the gas savings are amazing. Solid little truck.

I love my ‘23 Tremor. I live in Utah, so we get a lot of snow, and it handles great! I average 22 MPG around town and 33 MPG on the highway. My husband has an F-150 and prefers my Maverick for its fuel economy and handling.

If your Ram is a daily driver, downsizing makes sense. Mavericks are holding their value really well right now, so even if you get one and don’t like it, you won’t take a huge hit on depreciation if you decide to trade it later.

I’ve had my ‘24 EcoBoost AWD XLT with the 4K Tow Package for about a year. I’ve pulled a 3,000 lb camper, hauled ATVs, and carried a lot of construction materials. The bed is surprisingly useful if you get creative with straps. It’s nice to drive, great in the snow, and fuel-efficient for what it is.

I get about 30 MPG in the winter and 28 MPG in the summer. The factory tires are just okay—I’ll be upgrading to Falken Wildpeaks soon.

I was extremely happy until both axles failed at 65K miles, and now there’s a ‘national backorder with no ETA.’

I love my Maverick, but with two kids, space can be tight. If I had planned for a new truck ahead of time, I might have gone with a Ridgeline instead. Slightly worse gas mileage, but much more room.

I switched from a ‘21 Ram Hemi Crew Cab to a ‘23 EcoBoost AWD Maverick. No regrets—it does everything I need, gets 28 MPG, and actually feels quicker than my old Ram.

I downsized from a Sierra and have zero regrets. My ‘24 EcoBoost XLT Lux is fun to drive, and my wife likes taking it because it’s quicker than her car. It gets 27-29 MPG daily. We took it on a road trip with my two kids (7 and 9), and while it was a little tight, it was comfortable overall.

I have a ‘24 Maverick Hybrid FWD (SoCal). I’m getting 44+ MPG. I work construction and go off-road daily—no issues. It’s been a great little truck so far.

I live in Utah with heavy snow. We have a Hybrid Maverick, and I plan to get snow tires. Even without AWD, I’m confident it will handle winter well.

I came from a full-size truck, and I have zero regrets. The Maverick is quick, fuel-efficient, and easy to park. Plus, it still has enough truck utility for most people.

The Maverick isn’t a ‘real truck’ in the traditional sense. It drives more like a crossover with truck-like utility. It’s AWD, but it’s mostly FWD until needed. That said, I love mine. It handles fine in heavy rain—just not as planted as a heavy full-size truck.

Happy with it, but it’s not a full-size truck replacement. Mine has a 1,500 lb payload (FX4 has ~1,300). I wouldn’t take a unibody truck off-road like a body-on-frame, but it’s perfect for what I need.

I’ve had my ‘22 AWD XL Maverick for almost three years now. It’s stock except for adding cruise control. Closing in on 20K miles, and I have no complaints.
