Can a Maverick really last me 13 years and 220,000km?

I’m thinking about getting a Maverick, but I’m hoping it can last me for the long haul—like 13 years and over 220,000km. Any thoughts?

The engine should hold up fine, but rust will probably be your biggest enemy.

It always surprises me when people doubt modern cars hitting six digits on the odometer. Then I remember how much snow and salt some folks deal with. Makes me appreciate sweating it out in the summer instead of battling rust!

@Noor
Exactly! I see those videos of cars rusting out from winter roads, and it blows my mind. Meanwhile, my biggest concern is keeping my car from turning into an oven in August.

Rust prevention tech has gotten better since 2016, but it still depends on how you care for the truck.

Have you had other Fords? Do you think using Crown rustproofing and washing regularly would help me hit my goal?

@Vail
I’m in Manitoba. My 2018 Escape has 220k, and my Maverick is at 50k with no issues so far. Honestly, if you can’t hit 200k with a modern car, it’s probably more about how you’re maintaining it than the car itself.

@Vail
That’s my plan too! I live in Minneapolis and went with a spray-in bed liner. I’m planning to get the best undercoating I can find this summer and hit the car washes regularly in winter.

Minnesota Automotive in Coon Rapids does Fluid Film applications. It’s a great option, but you’ll need to retouch it annually. Way better than the rubberized coatings some dealerships offer, which can trap moisture and make rust worse.

@Ash
Thanks for the tip! How does Fluid Film compare to the undercoating the dealership does?

Dealerships usually use rubberized coatings, and they’re not great. Pebbles can chip them, and then they just trap saltwater and speed up rusting. Fluid Film is way better in my opinion.

@Ash
This is really helpful, thanks so much!

I’ve got 50k miles and no issues so far. I also have a yard full of 250k-mile Fords. The biggest problem long-term is rust, and honestly, Japanese cars aren’t much better in that department.

Good to know! I plan to use Crown rustproofing and do regular winter washes. Hopefully, that’ll keep it in good shape.

Do any of those 250k-mile Fords have turbocharged engines?

@Kaius
A buddy of mine has a 3.5 EcoBoost with 340k miles on it. I know of several others with over 200k as well.

It’s hard to say for sure since there’s not a lot of long-term data yet, but the drivetrain seems solid. With proper maintenance, it should hold up well.

Isn’t it the same drivetrain as the Escape? Could we use data from that to make an educated guess?

@Jem
That’s what I thought too. The hybrid uses the same 2.5L that’s been in the Escape hybrid for years. Mine’s been reliable so far.

If you do get one, go straight to a Crown rustproofing place and get it done before and after winter.
