Full EV Ford Maverick-sized truck… is it time?

Any employees from big automakers here? Please make a fully electric truck the size of the Ford Maverick. I’m convinced there’s huge demand for it. Trust me, people would buy it like crazy.

Ford could sell every hybrid Maverick they make. The problem is that it cuts into the super-profitable F-150 sales.

A full EV Maverick would do really well, but it risks overshadowing the F-150, which has been the best-selling vehicle for decades. For Ford, it’s all about keeping the F-150 on top and maximizing profits.

I’d get an EV Maverick immediately. My friends and family would, too.

@Devan
So why doesn’t a competitor like Toyota offer an EV compact pickup? Oh… right.

Maybe Hyundai will surprise us with an electric version of the Santa Cruz. As for Toyota, smaller Toyota trucks are used all over the world for serious work, even with smaller engines. I’d take one of those over an electric F-150 any day.

@Valentine
I’ve been seeing rumors about an electric Santa Cruz. Hyundai mentioned a new platform, so maybe it’s in the works.

@Valentine
Honda should electrify the Ridgeline, but knowing Honda, it’ll be a mild hybrid, cost way more, and they’ll make 1,000 before pulling the plug.

If Toyota won’t, what about Nissan? They could do it, right?

Nissan doesn’t have the financial strength. Most midsize truck manufacturers in the U.S. aren’t in a hurry to go full EV. And there’s that 25% chicken tax on imported trucks, which doesn’t help. Maybe a company like Geely or VinFast could bring a smaller EV truck to market.

@Devan
Call it the Ford F-050 Lightning.

Or the F-100. Keep it simple.

Just drop all the extra numbers. Call it the F-1.

The F-100 was an actual truck from the ’50s.

@Devan
Market the EV Maverick as part of the F-series lineup. They already lump all the F-series sales together for bragging rights.

@Devan
An EV Maverick isn’t going to sell a million units per year like the F-150 does.

Shh… don’t let them know.

@Devan
A smaller EV truck like the Maverick could sell well in international markets where the F-150 is just too big and inefficient.

@Devan
Ford isn’t going to make an EV Maverick anytime soon. They’re probably worried it’ll hurt sales of their other trucks.

If they wanted to kill the hybrid Maverick, they could just stop making it. Why even start if they don’t want it to succeed?

@Eli
I think they underestimated how popular the hybrid Maverick would be. They probably use it to help their fleet’s MPG numbers. The margins on Mavericks are much smaller than Rangers or F-150s, so they make it hard to get and try to upsell buyers to a more expensive truck.

Hoping Rivian’s R2 line brings something similar.
