How are the ford mavericks? My girlfriend is looking to purchase a small to midsized truck and the top option right now is the Maverick. I’ve heard good and bad, can anybody share their experiences with this vehicle? Is it worth getting?
Best vehicle I have ever owned (in my 60s). Reasonably priced and incredibly utilitarian. No big problems, although had to do some recalls. I have gotten 50+ mpg in my XLT hybrid (18k miles).
About 15000 miles on mine, love it so far. Take one for a test drive. Try one hybrid, and one ecoboost, at least.

Just be aware that for 22-23 the hybrid will be the cheaper option but in 24 the ecoboost was the base engine so the ecoboost in 24 will be cheaper. That being said, I enjoy mine.
@Blane
That’s a nice truck, thank you for your time and input!!
I bought one (XLT 2.0 Ecoboost AWD) and have been nothing but impressed by it so far.
It rides and handles like a car- which for me is perfect. I’ve never been a full-size pick-up person, as they are too big for me, and I have no need for something like that.
Mine was a purchase for my mobile business as well as personal use, and it fits the bill perfectly.
The 2.0 Ecoboost scoots pretty good for its size. The fuel economy is great too.
I’ve previously been using Transit Connects for my business, but with Ford discontinuing them- I needed something else, and I probably will never go back to them as long as Ford keeps the Maverick affordable and spec’d similarly.
I get the same or better fuel economy in my Maverick than the same-sized engine in my Transit Connects- but with 70 more horsepower (due to Ecoboost) and AWD.
I absolutely love mine. It meets all my needs of towing, payload, seat capacity, and most of all it’s a truck. I went with the Lariat option since I do travel work and already in under two years of ownership I’m over 47k miles and I expect to get to 50k by the end of the year. It has everything I could ask for in a vehicle and for the price I got it at ($33k back in 2022) it was a no-brainer. I’ve taken it to the dealer to get the hybrid battery heat exchanger replaced at around 32k miles and I’m thinking I’m going need to get the front axles checked due to some vibrations I’m noticing (seems to be a common problem among other owners) but I’ve got the extended warranty so that should get covered. I’ve done regular oil changes, air filter changes, and tire rotations about every 10k miles and it’s running like a champ. I love the mpg I’m getting and it was a huge factor in me getting this truck instead of something similar like a low/mid-level RAV4.
I went from an Escape to a Maverick and it is a nice upgrade to have the truck bed. They drive very similarly so the Maverick is great for someone who wants a truck but have it drive like an SUV. Living in a large city it is great for parking essentially anywhere.
I love mine. Best vehicle I’ve owned by a mile.
'23 ecoboost fx4. 19k miles 0 complaints. Fast as hell and a workhorse. I’ve put 1100 lbs in it carrying tile and hardibacker.
I got my 2024 in July with 20 mi. I use it for Uber and all my riders love it and comment how they have enough room in them. 30k on it now and only has ever needed oil changes tho the factory tires are getting traded out.
Great trucks, but there’s a stop sale on most of them for a recall if they’re looking at new.
I have a Hybrid and love it.
Fantastic. My sister is jealous as she compares it to her F-150 for going to the grocery store, etc. Note this is not really a small vehicle, it’s a regular size one. Same exterior dimensions as an Explorer.
I have a 24 ecoboost xl with 5k miles it’s a fun little thing. Coming from a 20-year-old ranger I was amazed by the 28mpg with premium. It’s fun to drive, it’s quite responsive, and when I took it on the highway, merging was easy. The seats are comfortable and the interior cargo space is amazing. I put some meatier tires on it and it looks great.
I’m about 14k miles into it. I’ve had all sorts of vehicles including motorcycles. I love this truck. It’s really perfect for everyday life. Tried the Santa Cruz for a bit, and while fancy, just didn’t get that good of mileage with the turbo engine.
I’m happy.
22 xlt eco awd, 63k miles and no problems other than recalls, love it.
2022 Lariat AWD
- Amazing gas mileage (35+ on a several thousand mile trip recently)
- Really good space inside the cab
- Amazing quality ride
- Love the lane keeping and adaptive cruise
- I can haul things up to 8’ ish, 15’ with a bed extender in the hitch receiver
- It sits low to the ground so it’s easy for kids/elderly/shorter people to get in and out of
- It fits really well in garages and parking spots compared to even a ranger or colorado
- It’s much more affordable than other small to midsized trucks
- I find that it’s best not to think of the maverick as a truck. Think of it as a midsized SUV that can do some ‘truck things.’ You’re not going to build a house with it or routinely tow a trailer full of furniture. What it excels at is- I can comfortably drop my kid off at school in the morning, drop an old couch at the dump on my drive home, pick up a load of lumber for a fence project in the afternoon, and roll the tonneau cover down to keep my groceries dry on my way home in the evening. It’s basically a small SUV with a really really useful/versatile trunk.
