Right now I’m driving a 2011 GMC Sierra with an extended cab, but it’s seen better days. My boss is letting me pick my next truck. I work on elevators, so I carry smaller parts like hand tools, motor belts, relays, and some hardware. The biggest thing I typically carry is a 5-gallon bucket of oil.
I commute about 2 hours a day and drive to multiple job sites throughout the day.
I’ve spent a lot of time in a Chevy Colorado driving over 100 miles daily for work, and body-on-frame trucks like that (or a Ranger) really beat you up after a while. Compared to what you’re driving now, a unibody truck like the Maverick will feel like a luxury car.
My FX4 rides like a comfy sedan, and even a base Maverick will handle smoother than a Ranger. The bed is smaller, but the back seat is roomy enough to organize small parts. Plus, it’s way easier to maneuver than a full-size truck, which helps on long drives or in tight spots.
I’ve been commuting nearly 2 hours each way in my Lariat for over six months. The ride is very comfortable, though the front of the seat digging into my legs can be annoying (a common issue). I even did a 14-hour drive for Thanksgiving and found it fine. It rides way better than any Super Duty or F-150 I’ve used. Never tried a Ranger, though.
The best part is it drives more like a car-based SUV than a full-size truck. My only complaint is the wind noise on highways. If you go with the hybrid, you’ll enjoy around 40mpg. These little trucks are great to see out there getting work done.
I have the Tremor package, and the seats are super comfy once broken in. Took mine from NY to Virginia Beach, and my back didn’t hurt at all. It also made the whole trip on one tank of gas—almost 500 miles. Loading stuff into the bed is easier too since it’s lower than most midsize trucks.
I’ve done plenty of long trips in mine, and I’m amazed at how comfortable it is. It’s not quite as smooth as my wife’s 2025 Tucson, but it’s still good.
I do a 300-mile round trip twice a week and a 1,500-mile trip every month. I have no complaints. I’m 5’10” and drive an XLT. It’s nimble, easy to park, and great for days when I’m making a lot of stops and driving a lot of miles. Big fan of this little workhorse.
