Maverick Review: The Good, Bad, and Ugly

I’m considering a Ford Maverick and would love to hear your honest experiences with the truck. What’s good, bad, or downright ugly? Lay it all out—let’s hear everything!

Good: It’s a perfect daily driver that blends car-like handling with truck utility. Gets great gas mileage, especially in the hybrid.

Bad: Bed is shorter than most traditional trucks. Interior has cheap materials that scratch easily.

Ugly: Some design choices (like the rotary shifter) take time to get used to, and the infotainment feels dated.

Good: Hybrid delivers amazing MPG—around 44-45 MPG with 550 miles per tank.

Bad: Lots of recalls. I’m wary about getting them done because of reported issues afterward.

Ugly: The radio screen resolution is terrible, like 240p bad.

Good: Fantastic handling, solid 39 MPG, and surprisingly powerful when needed. Comfortable seats and great under-seat storage.

Bad: Endless recalls—axles, airbags, engine risks, and more. Windshield wipers can’t be lifted without scratching the hood.

Ugly: Interior plastic scratches far too easily, and the rotary shifter isn’t intuitive.

Good: Fun to drive, great gas mileage, especially in hybrid mode if you know how to use the driving modes.

Bad: Interior rattles can be annoying, and the center screen sometimes doesn’t respond properly.

Ugly: The backup beeping noise on hybrids is overkill and gets old fast.

Good: AWD EcoBoost gives great performance and utility. It’s a perfect mix of car and truck.

Bad: The bed outlet amperage is too low, and it doesn’t remember driving mode settings.

Ugly: Auto start/stop can’t be disabled permanently unless you use aftermarket solutions.

Good: Customizability and practicality. It’s a well-designed truck for light-duty needs.

Bad: Speaker upgrades lead to door rattling with bass-heavy music. The factory audio system isn’t great.

Ugly: Door rattling is hard to fix even with foam insulation.

Good: Affordable, versatile, and good fuel efficiency.

Bad: Armrest is placed too far back for shorter drivers, and the standard speakers are subpar.

Ugly: The seatbelt indicator stays on the dash for way too long. NHTSA regulations make it unfixable.

Good: It’s the perfect truck for those who don’t need full-size capability but want truck utility.

Bad: Availability and pricing for used models are tough in some areas.

Ugly: The hybrid lacks an AWD option, which is a dealbreaker for some.

Good: Hybrid MPG is exceptional. Great truck for daily driving and light-duty needs.

Bad: Recalls make me hesitant to visit the dealer.

Ugly: Interior plastics and trim show wear quickly, making it feel cheaper than it is.

Good: The hybrid is efficient, and the truck is practical for city life while still handling larger loads when needed.

Bad: The infotainment system is unreliable, and the paint quality is poor—it chips too easily.

Ugly: My hybrid went into limp mode on the highway once, which has made me a bit paranoid.
