Need new tires… any suggestions?

My factory tires are starting to wear out at 31,000 miles. I need to replace them. What are the best tires that perform well in all weather, snow, and still keep my mpg? I’m looking at the Michelin CrossClimate 2, but is there something better?

If price isn’t an issue, I think the CrossClimate 2 is probably the best option out there.

Any good options that are cheaper but still decent?

I recommend the Falken Wildpeak A/T Trails. These are the best all-around tires I’ve had, perfect for a Bronco Sport. Should work just as well on the Maverick.

@Ollie
The AT4Ws don’t perform as well in snow and ice compared to the AT3Ws. If you’re in a snowy area, I’d suggest something like the Firestone Destination ATs instead. But they’re great if you don’t deal with snow.

@Arin
I live on Long Island where it doesn’t snow much, and if it does, it’s just 3-4 inches.

@Arin
AT4Ws are much heavier than the AT3Ws and might not be the best fit for this vehicle.

Yeah, they’re 11.6% (6lbs) heavier, just so you know.

@Ollie
How’s the mpg with those?

I get about 30-31 mpg with my Bronco Sport (1.5L 3-cylinder), mostly freeway driving.

Michelin Primacy A/S is cheaper and also pretty solid.

@Haze
Is that the same as the ones that already came on the car?

Wow, I’ve heard of the Continental tires lasting around 30,000 miles, but I’m shocked you only got 31,000 miles on the Michelin Primacy. They usually come with a 55k warranty, so you should expect around 60k miles. Are the roads that bad where you live? Maybe you can claim the warranty, they might be defective.

@Oli
Most of the roads aren’t too bad, maybe a few potholes here and there, but overall they’re fine. Regarding the warranty, do I need to go through Ford or contact Michelin directly?

I don’t have specifics for the Maverick yet, but I always go with whatever is the best deal and has the best warranty, usually from Costco or Discount Tire. I don’t live in a harsh weather area (I’m in SE AZ). From what I’ve seen, the CrossClimate tires are considered the ‘do-it-all tire,’ and I think that’s a fair assessment. The only downside to a versatile tire is that it’s more expensive than a tire that excels at one thing.

I put the CC2s on my Maverick, and it was by far the best decision I could’ve made. Totally worth the price for rain and snow performance. They handle really well, are quiet on the road, and have held up great after 20k miles.

@Vere
How’s the mpg been with those?

It’s been really good. Keeping mpg up was a key factor in choosing the CC2s over the BFG KO2s. The weight difference is 8 pounds per tire, which makes a big difference in mpg, especially in city driving. I’ll attach some fuel economy data from before and after switching.

@Vere

@Vere
I’m curious, how much did the CC2s cost for all four?
