Should I Upgrade from a Maverick to a Ranger?

I currently own a 2024 Ford Maverick and absolutely love it—it’s a fantastic little truck that meets all my needs while delivering excellent gas mileage. However, the newly redesigned Ranger has caught my eye. It offers a more traditional truck feel, a better infotainment system, and a higher-quality interior with less of the Maverick’s plastic-heavy look.

I’d be perfectly happy keeping my Maverick, but I’m curious whether upgrading to the Ranger would be worth it. Is the additional cost justified, or would I not see enough of an improvement to make the price jump worthwhile?

Also, any opinions on the 2.3L EcoBoost versus the 2.7L EcoBoost in the new Ranger?

Is spending an extra $10-20k worth a bigger screen and a more ‘truck-like’ feel? If the Maverick does everything you need, ask yourself: if you had that money to spend on anything, would it really be for a slightly larger truck?

Did you think about this before buying the Maverick? The new Ranger redesign has been public knowledge for a while now.

If gas mileage is your top priority, stick with the Maverick. If not, then the Ranger might make sense. I debated getting a Tacoma before choosing the Maverick for the MPG. Now that I have it, I don’t even think about the Tacoma anymore.

The 2024 Ranger is priced close to a used 2-3 year-old F-150. I test-drove the new Ranger FX4 at $44,500, but ended up getting a 2021 F-150 4x4 Super Crew with every option for $42,900. The Maverick has its advantages, but I felt the F-150’s quality and durability better suited my needs.

What are you doing with the vehicle? If it’s a daily driver that occasionally hauls mulch, the Maverick is perfect. If you’re towing, off-roading, or need serious truck capabilities, the Ranger might be worth considering.

The Maverick’s unibody ride is so worth it—smooth, comfortable, and efficient.

If Ford made a hybrid Ranger, I’d pick that in a heartbeat. Otherwise, the Maverick wins for now.

Honestly, I’d save the money and stick with the Maverick. Unless you really need the extra towing capacity, the Ranger doesn’t add enough to justify the higher price.

Wait for the 2025 Maverick refresh. I expect they’ll update the Sync system and screen, which might give you what you’re looking for without the need to switch to the Ranger.

I had a 2019 Ranger, and while I loved it, the prices for the new 2024 models are crazy. The only Ranger I’d consider now is the Raptor. My Maverick is all the truck I need, and AWD > 4x4 in my opinion.

I got the 2024 Ranger, and I love it. The Maverick felt too small for me, and the Ranger hits the sweet spot for size and capability.

I’ve owned both Rangers and now have a Maverick. Unless you need to tow heavy loads, the Maverick is more practical with better gas mileage and a lower price.

If you don’t tow or off-road often, the Maverick is the better value. You already own it, and it does what you need, so why pay more for capabilities you might not use?

The Ranger has less backseat legroom than the Maverick and a smaller bed than you’d expect. It’s also overpriced for what it is.

The Maverick is a unibody SUV with a truck bed, while the Ranger is a body-on-frame baby F-150. It really depends on what you need—hauling, towing, or daily driving?
