Switching from Grand Cherokee to Maverick... will I hate it?

Thinking of downsizing from a Grand Cherokee to a Maverick. Anyone here make the switch from a full-size SUV and regret it? How much do you feel the size difference?

I went from an F150 to a Maverick Hybrid. Don’t miss that giant truck at all! Now I can park anywhere without stress, and my fuel efficiency is way better—like three times what I got with the F150. Honestly, the Maverick is the most practical vehicle I’ve owned.

@Axel
Really? My other option was the PowerBoost F150… the onboard generator is really tempting for all the power outages we get.

Yeah, the PowerBoost is solid. But I’m also tempted by the Lightning now that they’re offering a free home charger with it.

@Axel
Wait, what? They’re offering free chargers with the Lightning now? Might have to look into that!

Have you thought about the Ranger? I think the 2025 model might have a hybrid option. I’m actually picking up a 2.7 V6 Ranger tomorrow… should be good on fuel for the power it has!

@Corey
Unfortunately, no PHEV Ranger is planned for the U.S. market.

I’m currently driving a Grand Caravan, which is super comfy. Love the captain’s chairs and the ability to fit full sheets of plywood in the back. I’m hoping my 2025 Maverick can offer some of that practicality. Obviously, it’s a different type of vehicle, but still!

@Darwin
You’ll be able to fit full sheets of plywood in the Maverick bed. It’ll hang out a bit over the tailgate, but they fit fine. I’ve done it a bunch of times.

Thanks for that! I’ve seen a few Maverick owners manage to get sheets in with the tailgate set to the mid position, which keeps them flat. I only haul lumber a few times a year, but it’s good to know it’ll work when I need it.

@Darwin
I keep my tailgate closed and just rest the plywood on the top edge if it’s a short drive. I’m close to Home Depot and Lowe’s, so for me, it’s usually about a 10-block drive. For longer trips or highway driving, I’d definitely set the tailgate to where it’s level with the wheel wells.

Thanks for the downvotes on a simple question, guys!

Yeah, voting here is strange sometimes. I’ll throw an upvote your way!

Honestly, some people on this forum can be rough (hopefully, I’ll get some upvotes for saying that lol).

Thanks, I appreciate it!

Just to clarify, the Grand Cherokee isn’t technically a full-size SUV. It’s more like a larger mid-size. My wife has a 2021 Yukon XL, and now that’s a full-size SUV. The Maverick’s space is obviously smaller, but I’m 6’3" and on the heavier side, and I find the Maverick surprisingly comfortable. It has a great driving position, and the ride is decent. Plus, the rear seats have more room than most mid-size trucks.

@Phoenix
When it first came out, the Grand Cherokee was the biggest Jeep model compared to the regular Cherokee.

True, but even then it was competing with mid-size SUVs like the Highlander, Explorer, and Pilot. Jeep didn’t really have anything in the lineup to go against the Tahoe, Suburban, or Expedition. The Cherokee has always been more compact.

@Phoenix
Agreed. My Cherokee fits perfectly in those “compact only” parking spaces in modern garages. Definitely feels more compact compared to some of the bigger SUVs out there.

I moved from a Town and Country. I do miss the cushy leather captain’s chairs and the higher view, but the extra cabin space hasn’t been as much of an issue as I thought it would. The Maverick is a great little truck, and the bed has been super useful.
