Thinking about getting a Ford Maverick… worth it or not?

I’m considering buying a new vehicle, and I want something that’s kind of a jack-of-all-trades. Obviously, I’m not expecting to haul massive loads or get Prius-level gas mileage, but I’d like something that can handle a bit of everything. It’s sort of like how the Honda Element was versatile, but I’ve read about some reliability concerns with the Maverick. Someone said their transmission failed before hitting 100k miles, which has me second-guessing. Does anyone here own one? What’s your experience been like? Or do you have any other recommendations?

Honestly, if you’re worried about one person’s bad experience with a transmission, you’ll never find a car that meets your expectations. They made tons of Honda Elements, and the odd one here and there had issues. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad vehicle overall.

I was actually talking about the Ford Maverick, not the Element. Someone had a transmission fail on them, and I’m trying to figure out if that’s common with this truck. I keep coming back to the Maverick because it seems like a good fit for me, but stuff like this makes me hesitate. Granted, that guy put 100k on it in two years, and I don’t drive that much, but it’s still something I want to consider.

Ah, got it. Yeah, I haven’t heard of any major issues with the Maverick. I work in the auto industry and see all sorts of vehicles come through auctions. From what I’ve seen, the Maverick seems solid.

Touchscreens and other new tech can be cheaper for manufacturers, but they’re definitely less durable. I work in controls, and it’s all about cutting costs these days. Buttons are becoming a thing of the past.

Yeah, as a consumer, I hate all this touchscreen stuff. It’s annoying and doesn’t last as long. And don’t even get me started on those ridiculous gear selectors… why fix something that wasn’t broken?

Totally agree. The user experience is worse, but manufacturers save money. It’s frustrating for buyers like us.

Exactly. It’s all about the bottom line for them, but it makes owning and using the car less enjoyable for us.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell if an issue is the car’s fault or the owner’s. Maybe they were towing something too heavy. I haven’t heard of widespread problems with Mavericks, though. I have a Ranger, and it’s been great so far.

I drove a Maverick for work delivering auto parts, and it was pretty decent. Can’t speak much to towing, but as a daily driver, it was nice. Didn’t have it long enough to see any maintenance issues, though.

Man, people say anything with spark plugs isn’t a real truck, lol. I saw a lowered Maverick the other day, and it looked really slick.

Haha, yeah, everyone’s got their opinions. It’s all about what works for you.

If you’re paying more than $30k, I don’t think it’s worth it. The interior feels really cheap.

Yeah, I’ve come to the same conclusion. I’m looking to get the base model as close to MSRP as possible.

My dad has a Maverick hybrid, and he loves it. It gets a little over 40 mpg.

That’s exactly what I was going to say! My dad’s been raving about his too.

It’s a good option, but I’d only go for the hybrid. The other engines don’t make as much sense for what it is.

My wife just got her hybrid after waiting seven months. Not sure if availability is getting better, but be ready for a potential wait.

Yeah, I’m leaning towards the hybrid for the fuel efficiency.

Good choice. Just keep in mind the towing capacity is pretty limited. But for basic hauling, it’s solid.
