I’ve been considering the Ford Maverick but wanted to hear from people who actually own or have driven one. What do you like or dislike about it? Is it worth it at the current prices? Would love your thoughts, especially if you’ve compared it to other small trucks or SUVs.
I like that it’s a good size, has decent fuel economy, and a bed, all at a reasonable price if you order it or find a dealership that doesn’t mark it up. My issue is that a lot of dealerships near me don’t honor MSRP, used ones are still expensive, and waiting for an order takes forever. Honestly, for the money, you might be better off getting a used Ranger. The Maverick is a great deal at $23-25k, but I wouldn’t pay $30k or more for it.
I’m in the DC area, and the cheapest quote I got was with a $9k markup. The demand is crazy right now.
I just checked cars.com today, and one had a $2,500 price drop. The new price matched MSRP. Maybe the market is starting to settle down.
That’s a good sign. The last few years have been rough for car buyers. I work with someone who paid an $8k markup at the peak of all this, and now they’re upset their trade-in value doesn’t reflect it. Like… what did they expect? Lol.
If you’re eligible, Ford has an X-Plan pricing program through certain employers. It’s worth checking out.
Yep, it’s called X-Plan, but it depends on whether the dealership honors it. For the Maverick, the discount is less than $1k off MSRP.
Still better than dealing with insane markups. Honestly, I don’t get why people downvote this idea.
The issue is that a lot of dealers marking up above MSRP aren’t honoring X-Plan either. Some dealers are offering Mavericks below MSRP if you’re willing to order and wait.
Fair enough. I’d say if you’re serious about it, shop around and see if you can find a dealership honoring the program.
Exactly. Don’t settle for overpaying just because one dealer won’t work with you.
A dealer near me honors MSRP and doesn’t require a deposit for orders. It’s worth asking around to find a place like that.
Keep in mind that if you want things like adaptive cruise control or advanced features, the Maverick might not be the best option. Even the base XL hybrid is pushing $27k before taxes and fees now.
I own a 2023 Hybrid and absolutely love it. I’m averaging around 39 MPG in the winter here in Michigan and got 43-45 MPG in the fall. I paid about $30k for a loaded XLT with heated seats and a moonroof. I test drove the CX-5, Rav4, and Forester, but I liked the Maverick the most. My only gripe is no push-to-start or wireless CarPlay, but I can live without those.
Good point, but just an FYI—the 2024 XLT hybrid with the same features is closer to $33k now.
That’s a good thing to mention. Thanks for pointing it out!
No way, those are also the other cars I’m considering! How did you find the CX-5? I’m torn between that and the Maverick, but your post is pushing me toward the Maverick. With everything getting more expensive, better gas mileage sounds like the way to go.
The CX-5 isn’t bad, but it felt boring to me. Might be more reliable long-term than the Maverick, but the hybrid Maverick shares its system with the Prius, so Ford’s hybrids are solid. The Maverick has way more utility for the price in my opinion.
Funny you say that—I used to drive a Prius and secretly loved it! I’ll still test everything, but the Maverick is looking like the winner for me right now. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Just ordered a Maverick Lariat Tremor. Can’t wait! I’m upgrading from my 2009 Ranger Sport, which I love.
