SavageGooseJack just shared a video talking about the 2024 Ford Maverick. He goes over prices, issues with reliability, and how it feels to drive. What are your thoughts about this truck?
On paper, the Maverick Hybrid seems like the best choice for most people who want a small utility truck.
But Ford screwed it up with bad marketing and letting dealers jack up the prices. Now it’s like it’s in a whole other category.
How is marketing the problem if it’s sold out?
The real issue is they can’t make them fast enough, and there’s also the reliability stuff.
The problem isn’t marketing. It’s the bad reliability. Ford pushed trucks and SUVs hard, but they rushed and cut corners. All those recalls and quality issues hurt even lease customers.
What I don’t get is why the hybrid is so messed up. They already had solid versions of this in the C-Max and Fusion. Cutting costs to keep it cheap probably backfired.
COVID messed everything up for carmakers. Tons of cars made after 2021 have more problems and recalls. It’s not just Ford; Honda and Toyota had issues too.
And yeah, the Maverick is a brand-new model, so first-gen issues are expected. Look at the new Tundra—same story. People still buy them, though.
But it’s built on the same platform as the Escape and Bronco Sport. Shouldn’t they have figured this out by now?
Tundra isn’t a first-gen model, though. That comparison doesn’t really work.
Honestly, I think the interiors look awful too.
I actually liked the interior. No shiny fingerprint magnets, physical knobs for climate control, and a decently sized screen. All wins for me.
It’s not great in pictures, but it’s better in person. Plus, I care more about functionality anyway.
Ford killed its chances? They’re selling every single one at full price. What are you talking about?
It’s like saying, ‘Nobody goes to that restaurant anymore—it’s too crowded.’
Marketing isn’t an issue. There’s still a waitlist for these trucks.
I drove my friend’s Maverick last weekend. It was surprisingly truck-like. High seating, square corners… really nice!
It needs AWD to compete.
It does have AWD.
He probably means the hybrid version needs AWD.
Ah, got it. I think a FWD city truck works fine for most people, but yeah, they should at least offer the option.
Compete with what, though? What other small truck gives you 30+ MPG for under $30k?
