Here’s a look at my latest DIY! I mounted a 12V outlet inside the cubby area for easy access. Check out the image link for details.
I’ve been planning something similar! I’m going to mount a DC motor for my DIY hard tonneau cover there too. Did you use any tutorials, or just wing it? Links would be awesome!

I’d love to see how that turns out, keep me updated on the cover project!
@Sky
For sure! Here’s a post I made a while back showing the design basics. I’ve weatherproofed it and painted it since then. Next up is leveling the panels and adding the motor to move them. Can’t wait to post the final setup!
@Brook
That sounds amazing! If you ever decide to sell these, I’d be your first buyer.

That’s actually the goal! Once I finish this first version, I want to start making kits. Out of curiosity, would you prefer just parts and instructions to DIY or a mostly assembled kit?
@Brook
Good question! If it’s not too hard to put together, I’d probably enjoy the DIY option and maybe save on cost. But having both options would be great; some folks will want the fun of building it, and others will want it mostly ready. Either way, I’m still in!

I just posted some more details in another comment, but honestly, no tutorial needed if you’re comfortable with a bit of wiring and drilling. Ford provides a plug you can connect to, so you just need to secure the socket once you get it through the bed wall. There’s a QR code on the cubby door that links to a Ford video if you want a walkthrough, though!
@Blake
That’s super helpful, thanks! Just curious—does the power come on with the truck or when you lock/unlock? Also, do you know the amperage?

From what I’ve read, it powers on like the interior electronics, so it stays on for about an hour after you turn off the engine. The USB socket has a separate power button, but it’s optional. The Amazon listing says the amperage cutoff is 10A.
Nice work!
I grabbed a combo 12V socket with USB-A and USB-C ports from Amazon for around $15. It came with almost everything except a few crimp connectors. Installation was easy with a 1 1/8" drill bit, and you can measure from the outside to get a clean fit. If you plan to mount it inside the cubby, just make sure to use the cab side; the tailgate side doesn’t have enough room. Super useful and budget-friendly addition!
How much power can you safely draw from the 12V in the bed? I’m thinking of adding a 12V to 110V inverter.

You might want to check the fuse that’s running the power line.

I’ve been considering this too, and that spot seems perfect… maybe even the tailgate side?

Heads up, you might struggle to fit it on the tailgate side. There isn’t enough clearance for the socket and wiring.
@Blake
Gotcha! Thanks for the heads up, I haven’t looked too closely yet.

No worries! I didn’t realize either until I got the cubby out and checked. The cord they give you is plenty long to reach wherever you decide to mount it.
@Blake
Good to know! I was mainly thinking about the aesthetics anyway.
