1991 Ford Maverick spotted in the wild… anyone else seen one like this?

Check out this clean 1991 Ford Maverick! They’re everywhere in Australia, but this one is in great shape.

I’d love to have one of these in the US!

They’re super rare in the US. You see them all the time here in Australia, but most aren’t as well kept as this one.

They were never sold in the US under the Maverick name.

@Archer
Pretty sure they had to be imported from Asia. I doubt many made it over.

I’ve never seen one in person in the US, but we’re getting a new Maverick soon. It’s more like a Honda Ridgeline, though.

It looks pretty nice, but I don’t think it’s coming to Australia.

@Voss
It’s not my thing, but for someone who needs a small truck for city driving, it’s probably a solid choice.

Technically, it’s old enough that you could import one if you’re serious about it!

I grew up in Honduras, and I’ve been thinking about trying to bring some over. They’re not super rare down there.

What’s up with the Nissan grill? Lol

The Ford Maverick is just a rebadged Nissan GQ Patrol.

Interesting! Thanks for clearing that up.

Badge swapping was super common here in Australia back in the day.

@Voss
Happened in the US too. We had stuff like the Mitsubishi Montero as the Dodge Raider, Isuzu trucks as Chevy LUVs, and the Ford Ranger as a Mazda B-series. Companies loved rebadging to fill gaps or avoid tariffs.

@Toby
The Geo brand was basically all rebadged Japanese cars.

Yep, the Geo Metro was made by Toyota.

Actually, the Metro was a Suzuki. I think you’re thinking of the Prizm, which was a rebadged Corolla.

@Voss
You’re right! The Prizm was totally the Corolla.
