Here’s a beautiful example of a 1971 Ford Maverick. Let’s hear your stories or thoughts on these classic cars.
The Ford Maverick was my first car! Bought it from my sister in 1978 for $300. It was a 2-door, Medium Green with a black interior and powered by the I-6 engine. It was slow, simple to fix, and not a chick magnet—perfect for high school. Worst car I’ve owned, but I loved it as my first.

Haven’t seen one in 20 years. They rusted out pretty bad back in the day.

‘Car cancer,’ lol. That’s a good one.
@Crosby
You haven’t driven a bad car until you’ve tried a Yugoslav one.
@Crosby
You’re not Brazilian, I see. Here, these were like Mustangs to us!

Beats my first car! A rusty 1979 Mazda GLC with 65 horsepower. Bought it for $300 in 1991 and drove it for three years without changing the oil once.
@Crosby
This might be the best car review I’ve ever read.
That’s one good-looking Maverick.

I don’t remember them looking that good back in the day!

That’s a million-dollar song right there!
The clean lines and subtle graphics are perfect. Great job on this build!
By age 15, I had swapped the I-6 for a 302 in my Maverick at least half a dozen times. Our group of friends had seven Mavericks between three families.
Back in the day, you could grab these with a 302 for under $500 in the used market. Beat them up, then sell the block to someone else for a couple hundred bucks. Good times.
You don’t see many of these anymore. This one’s super clean.
My grandfather used to rant about how much he hated these cars, even though he bought one new off the lot. He blamed the gas crisis.
I had one just like this… until I wrapped it around a tree.
It looks like if Nissan tried to make a Mustang.

Wow, that’s a piece of art!
@Dallas
Damn, that’s gorgeous.
