Backup cameras are really making people forget how to use side mirrors and look over their shoulder. First-world problems, right?
I don’t back up until it’s cleared off.
I haven’t figured out how to solve this either. It’s so frustrating when the rear camera is all blurry. I use it to monitor things behind me, especially when there are obstacles I can’t see.
The backup camera on my Subaru looks like that every time it rains. This isn’t really a Maverick-specific issue; it happens with other vehicles too.
You could always delete the camera.
Maybe just use your mirrors instead of the camera.
When it rains, here’s what I do — I take my finger, usually the pointer, and wipe off the camera lens. I know, it’s a little gross, but you can dry it off with a towel or even a hairdryer. If you don’t have those, you can always wipe it on your pants. Simple fix!
I’m working on a weather machine, don’t worry, I’ll keep you updated!
Using soapy water to clean it can help it stay clean longer. You could also try Rain-X or ceramic coating for even better results. This isn’t just a Ford Maverick issue. My wife’s Kia Minivan has the same problem. I just do my best to keep dirt and water from sticking.
I’m thinking of trying something like a guard for the camera. A blocked view is really annoying, especially when you’re in a rush. I’m not sure if this method will work, but I’ve also considered getting something custom made. I installed a mini-wiper blade on mine. It’s great because it even has a moisture sensor! Here’s a link to a video about it: https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ
It happens. Not really a big deal.
If you can’t back up without the camera, maybe consider getting a vehicle with a better design that doesn’t pick up all the road spray. Pickup trucks and some hatchbacks have this problem. Or you could just clean it when you do your walk-around check before reversing.
