Are the brakes on Ecoboost just as good as hybrid?

The brakes saved me from hitting a huge deer this morning. It jumped into my headlights, and I slammed the brakes, fully expecting to hit it, but I didn’t! I’m wondering, are they just as good on the Ecoboost as they are on the hybrid? For reference, I’m not a hunter, but I’ve hit two deer before in my life. Luckily, this one got away!

I have the Ecoboost (2024 XLT), and the brakes are excellent. Great stopping power and response. Just don’t count on Pre-Collision Assist to help with deer—it’s meant for vehicles, not animals or pedestrians.

Do you know that from personal experience?

No, but I’ve read about it in the manual. Hopefully, nobody finds out the hard way.

Yeah, the system didn’t even react. It all happened so fast. Still, I’m impressed with the brakes on this truck. Ford gets a lot of jokes, but they nailed this part.

Wait until you use the blind spot warning while reversing. It saved me when a car came flying down the street. You’ll appreciate Ford even more after that.

Ah, the good ol’ Pre-Collision Assist…
Deer: Nope
Pedestrians: Nope
Leaves on the grill: Maybe?

Getting my Maverick made me realize how bad the brakes were on my 4Runner. I ended up replacing them out of pure shame.

Now you’ve got me thinking about my Odyssey. Love it, but compared to the Maverick, it’s like trying to stop on skates.

The hybrid and Lariat trims have an electronic brake booster for adaptive cruise control. Not sure if it actually affects overall braking performance, though.

I’ve had both. The Ecoboost FX4 had hill descent control, which was great for mountain trails, and the brakes were solid. The hybrid brakes are good too, but in earlier models, there was sometimes a delay switching from regen to physical braking at really low speeds (like in a drive-thru).

@Ren
Ford fixed most of those issues with software updates. My hybrid brakes work great now—almost as reliable as their HVAC systems, which Ford is famous for.

I’ve got 45k miles on my FX4 Ecoboost, and my front brakes still have about 80% life left. Rear ones are just now getting low. I’ve had cars that chewed through brakes every 20-30k miles and warped rotors instantly. This truck is impressive.

My brakes saved me from hitting a guy who brake-checked me on the highway. Unfortunately, the car behind me wasn’t so lucky and hit me instead.

Switching from a Town and Country to this, I can’t believe how good the brakes are. The difference is huge.
