I am looking to buy a Maverick, probably an XLT with a couple different trim levels. I’m curious to know from current owners which extras or choices you’re extremely happy you chose, or which ones were a complete waste of money.

It will be a bit of a departure from my previous Tacoma, which had a long bed, but it will be capable of handling my needs.

The stock speakers are really disappointing. The B&O system in the Lariat is slightly better, but still nothing to get excited about. For a major improvement, replace your door, dash, and C-pillar speakers, and definitely add a subwoofer! While I’m a bit of a car audio enthusiast, most people agree with this assessment.

I have my own list of personal preferences and money traps, but they’re just my perspective.

Avoid paying more than the MSRP and steer clear of dealer add-ons like Scotchgard, GPS tracking, or window etching. Extended warranties are generally not worth it, and although many people swear by them, I choose not to purchase one. I handle most of my own repairs.

Yes, I stay away from all of those things.

In yours, did you replace them? If yes, what did you replace it with?

In my XL, I used Rockford Fosgate speakers, and in my Lariat, I switched to Infinity, including a reducer for the center channel. Honestly, the Infinity speakers were a letdown, especially given their price.

I have ordered a 25 XL and plan to go with Rockford again. All the speakers are powered by the deck technically ACM power, but I also run a 10 subwoofer under the seat.

So you just swapped the speakers and did not change anything else?

Absolutely, choosing the RIGHT speakers makes all the difference.

Rubber floor mats are a must. And my personal favorite? The stubby antenna.

360 degree assistance as a copilot. I enjoy going on road trips with ACC in the Maverick.
