Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD… could this finally happen?

Rumors are floating around that the Maverick might get a hybrid AWD setup with the refresh. What do you all think?

That could really bring in buyers who want AWD but are okay with slightly lower MPG since the hybrid already has great numbers. But I bet it won’t come cheap.

It doesn’t need to be super strong. Something like Toyota’s E-AWD for extra traction in snow or ice would be enough for me.

Exactly. And Toyota’s system adds just over $1k. Plus, without AWD, resale in places like Colorado takes a big hit.

Good point. Maybe picking up a used FWD Maverick is the way to go… but so far, they still sell close to new prices.

The FWD Ecoboost models are the only used Mavericks I’ve seen that are somewhat affordable. Hopefully, this will make the FWD hybrids more reasonable too.

That 2.0 Ecoboost seems solid. I have a Fiesta ST, and the 1.6 Ecoboost in it is a gem. I’d love to drive both Mavericks and see how they compare.

The 2.0 Ecoboost is awesome. It’s similar to the Focus ST engine but with tweaks like a twin-scroll turbo. Tons of torque but not the best sound—kind of like an angry sewing machine.

I almost bought a Mustang, but it wasn’t as fun as my Fiesta. Plus, the Fiesta is surprisingly practical with four doors and a hatch.

The 2.0 Ecoboost is solid, but I’d be worried about the 8F35 transmission. Lots of reports of issues under 100k miles.

Do you think the transmission problems are widespread or just a few unlucky cases?

It’s hard to say, but it’s enough to make me cautious. Ford has been hiking prices and removing features, so I passed on my Maverick order. They’re cool trucks, but I’m not sure they’re worth the current cost.

AWD is just more useful in so many places, not just Colorado. Anywhere with snow or rain, it makes a big difference.

You’ve got my vote for AWD hybrid.

It’ll probably be the same AWD setup from the Escape Hybrid. Expect it to be limited to certain trims and cost about $1k more than FWD.

I’d love to see them bring in the PHEV AWD system from the Escape!

The Escape PHEV is only FWD. The Corsair uses a PHEV AWD system with an electric rear axle instead of a driveshaft.

Mavericks sell fast, so maybe we’ll see an AWD hybrid or even a sporty trim down the road.

If they keep selling well, Ford might consider adding new options like a hybrid AWD or performance trim.

I’m not in the market right now, but an AWD hybrid would definitely be on my list next time I’m car shopping.
