Anyone know which 2.0 engine it’s using? The one in the Focus ST was reliable, but the Fusion and Escape versions had issues.

@Emery
It’s the 2.0 from the Escape and Edge. They made some changes to address the coolant intrusion problems.

Yep, they redesigned the head gasket and fixed some other weak points. Hopefully, this version holds up better.
@Emery
The hybrid system is mostly carried over from the Escape, but Ford built the electrical side of it in-house this time.

I’d wait a couple of years before buying, just to let them iron out any issues first.
I like the Maverick, but I don’t think it fits the name. They should’ve gone with something like F-75 instead. Maverick will always remind me of the old muscle car era.
Ford needs to make a V8 minivan to beat Dodge to the punch with a Hellcat minivan. That would be insane!

They made the EcoBoost Flex for a while, which was kind of cool.

Now imagine swapping in the Predator V8. Who even needs a hood or fender at that point?
I’d be all in if my crossover had a bed, so the Maverick definitely has my attention.
Is it worth it? Depends. If you’re looking for a budget truck, the Maverick hybrid makes sense. But once you add options, it’s getting close to Ranger territory.

What about long-term costs? Which one wins for maintenance and fuel?
@Dale
Fuel economy favors the Maverick, especially the hybrid. Maintenance is pretty similar overall, but tires and some parts might cost more on the Ranger. It really depends on what you need.

If you mostly need a sedan with a truck bed for occasional hauling, the Maverick is a no-brainer. It’s perfect for suburban life.

I ordered a Maverick even though the dealer tried to sell me a Ranger. The Maverick just fits my needs better—it’s small, fuel-efficient, and still practical for weekend projects.
Nope, not worth it. It’s too small to be a real truck, and the MPG isn’t as great as they claim.
