I’ve been looking at the Ford Maverick, and it seems like the perfect truck for me. It’s compact, easy to handle, and doesn’t take up too much space. I’ve always owned Toyotas though, so I’m a little worried about giving up that legendary reliability.
What’s your experience with the Maverick? Is it worth it, or should I stick to what I know? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
I grabbed one at MSRP when it launched, and I’ve been super happy with it. It’s great to have a truck bed without the bulk of a full-size truck. That said, I wouldn’t pay over MSRP for one—it’s just not worth it at inflated prices.
Not exactly. You can build and customize it online, but it still gets sent to a local dealer. The dealer should honor MSRP, but there’s a backlog, and orders are already closed for the 2023 models.
I got an XLT for $26,500 out the door, and it’s been amazing. If it were $35k, I don’t think I could justify it, but at this price, it’s perfect. I commute in it, get 40 mpg, and use the bed for house projects on weekends. Couldn’t be happier.
It’s a great little truck, but the dealer markups have ruined it. Ford designed it to be an affordable compact pickup, but with dealers adding $10k markups, you might as well buy a midsize truck with more towing capacity and a bigger bed.
My family’s taken delivery of four Mavericks now, all at MSRP except one. That one was a 2022 XL hybrid my sister got by taking over someone else’s order. The dealer added $2k, but it was still under $26k. She ended up selling it for $30k when our next order came in and upgraded for free.
If you’re going with the hybrid, you’re not giving up reliability. Ford’s hybrids are just as reliable as Toyota’s. The only catch is the dealer markups, which can make it harder to justify.
I own a Maverick and love it. It gets 40+ mpg, and the bed makes hardware store trips much easier. If you need serious towing, look elsewhere, but for everyday use and light hauling, it’s awesome.
I bought a 2020 Ranger because the Maverick wasn’t out yet. Honestly, the Maverick would’ve been a better fit for me. It’s got better passenger space, good mpg, and plenty of utility for what I need.
