Pretty set on getting a 2023 Maverick, but I need to know the bed size when the tailgate is down. It looks like it’s about 5.5 feet? Does anyone know for sure? Also, how much weight can the tailgate hold? I’m thinking of transporting a motorcycle once in a while (properly secured, of course). The rear wheel would need to rest on the gate. Not something I’d do often, but I want to make sure it’s possible.
Yep, it’s a proper truck bed—you can definitely load a motorcycle in it. A quick search shows the bed is about 79 inches with the tailgate down. The tailgate itself can handle over 400 pounds. I’ve put a bike in my hybrid XLT without any trouble. Bonus: if you use the mid-cable setting, it angles up a bit, which helps keep things from sliding out.

My bike is a bit heavier—just over 500 pounds wet—but for the once every couple of years I’d need to move it, this sounds doable. Great to know! I’m close to buying one. My old Accord has been great, but I’m tired of tying stuff to the roof or stuffing it into the backseat. I don’t care about rims or accessories. All I need is AC, phone connectivity, and a heater. I’m good to go.

Sounds like the Maverick is a good fit for you. If you’re looking for reliability and mileage under $50k, the Maverick’s a solid choice. Unless you’d prefer an older 4-cylinder Tacoma or Ranger and don’t mind putting money into maintenance. Your bike should be fine—only one wheel will rest on the tailgate, not both. The weight limit is 400 lbs for the mid position and 500 lbs for fully down.
@Kelley
Thanks so much for your help. I’m looking at the base model, no extras. I plan to pay cash, but I know these trucks are in high demand. Patience is key! Still debating between the hybrid and EcoBoost.
@Dorian
It should handle it fine since the full weight of the bike won’t be on the tailgate.

Exactly, that’s what I’m thinking. Thanks! For now, my 2006 Accord still works, and I might just add a trailer hitch and small trailer for now. Waiting has its perks—there’s the used market and seeing what competitors bring out. I hear Toyota might have something new in the next few years.
I have the hybrid model, and it’s averaging 35-36 MPG.
