Struggling with hybrid battery issues… anyone else?

@Mackenzie
It’s not too hard—just need a long extension and a magnet to get the hold-down nut. AGM shouldn’t void your warranty since it’s still the same voltage. It’s just a better battery design. But check with Ford to be sure.

This is common for hybrids. The 12V battery activates the relays that switch to the HV battery. Disabling FordPass connectivity might help—it drains the 12V battery by constantly communicating with Ford servers. I’d also recommend using a trickle charger if your truck sits unused for long periods. Long-term, consider replacing the factory battery with an AGM.

@Zeek
It’s so random. I have a 2022 hybrid and haven’t had any problems, even after leaving it parked for weeks.

@Zeek
I disabled FordPass and deleted the app. Fingers crossed it helps. Thanks for confirming this step! I’m using a NOCO 5 charger nightly until Ford releases a fix.

@Zeek
Disabled FordPass on my 2022 hybrid when I bought it and haven’t had a single issue since.

Got a new battery from the dealer after getting deep sleep messages on day one with my 2023 XLT. They also did a software update called an ‘SMS Update.’ Ford really needs to address this issue for everyone—it’s unacceptable.

Hang in there! I’ve got the same truck at 33K miles and haven’t had these problems. Sending good vibes your way!

Were you charging directly from the battery or using the under-hood posts? Charging directly can confuse the system, making it think the battery is still dead.

I used the posts under the hood.

Use a battery maintainer to charge fully and condition your battery. Afterward, reset the Battery Monitoring System (BMS) using the high beam + brake pedal method, then let it sit overnight to calibrate.

Not a Maverick owner yet, but I’ve been considering one. Issues like this make me hesitate. Is the hybrid really ready for prime time?

Honestly, I wish I could say yes, but these issues make it hard to recommend. That said, many owners don’t seem to have these problems.

Replace the battery with a good AGM one. It’s a known issue with the factory batteries, and swapping mine fixed all the problems.
