What should you check when buying a used vehicle?

Any advice on what to look for? I have noticed a surge of used Mavericks hitting the Ontario market lately, which seems like a promising opportunity.

Around 80% of these vehicles are just under the 60,000 km mark, suggesting they might be lease returns or trade-ins before the comprehensive warranty expires. I understand that the drivetrain warranty in Canada is 4 years/80,000 km, but I will need to verify the specifics for the 2022 and 2023 model years.

Initially, I was considering the hybrid, but I now think I would prefer the AWD EcoBoost with the 4K tow and luxury packages. While off-roading isn’t my focus, I might consider an FX4 if I come across one.

The used ones I’ve seen in Alberta are priced almost the same as they were two years ago. I’ve come across 2022 models still going for $30k+, and I test drove a 2024 XL that was priced at $36k, but it was pretty basic.

I am noticing the same thing. There are a few under $35k, but they typically have high mileage and minimal features. Anything XLT or higher with decent features and under 60k miles is priced in the mid-30s to low 40s. At that point, it seems like there is no real advantage to buying used.

I get it. I have been waiting since they were released, but now the new 2025 models with Hybrid AWD and Sync 4 might finally convince me to make a move.

In areas with snow, AWD makes sense, which is why I purchased a 24 EB AWD with the 360-degree Luxury Package. Without the copilot, I believe I could survive. It can be annoying at times.

Thanks. I am interested in AWD because it’s the only option that comes with the 4k towing package. FWD is limited to just 2000lbs.

I was looking to buy used, but the prices in the DMV area are outrageous. I ended up purchasing a new 2024 XL for less than a 2022 XL, so if you’re comfortable negotiating with dealerships, I would recommend going for it and haggling with them.

Very good, I appreciate that. Regretfully, those trucks are unicorns in Ontario, where there is practically little room for negotiating. However, we had this conversation six months prior.

That is pretty much how it was when I bought my 2023 AWD XLT used in Ontario back in March. It only had 8,000 km on it, and the only extra I managed to get from the dealer was tinted front windows.

I am not sure where you are, but Listowel Ford has some higher-end models on the lot, mainly Tremors and Lariats.

I am grateful. I understand that the dealers want to maximize their profit, so I don’t mind, but I’m not going to pay nearly $50,000 for a Maverick.
