Why Can’t My Car Reset the Clock on Its Own?

How come we have all this tech in our cars, yet it can’t handle something as simple as a clock reset? Asking for a friend here… at least it’s not rocket science to change it manually.

Haha, I had the exact same thought yesterday!

Mine actually updated itself when CarPlay connected… I use one of those wireless adapters, and the time just synced up.

Interesting. Mine didn’t sync and I use a wireless adapter too. But ever since I updated my phone to 18.1, CarPlay’s been acting weird. Now it won’t open apps directly—like Google Maps and Audible—unless I start them on my phone first. Anyone else having issues? What version is your phone on?

@Pace
I’m still on 18, but it’s prompting me to update to 18.1. Now I’m thinking I might wait on that update… lol

Try switching to the main Ford screen first. Mine didn’t sync until CarPlay loaded up, and then it got the time from my phone. But yeah, I still had to set the actual truck clock by hand.

@Zen
Yep, same here. I usually ignore that screen, but I noticed the time was off for a second until CarPlay kicked in.

I’m surprised it doesn’t auto-sync… isn’t FordPass supposed to update the time through the modem connection?

Maybe, but I didn’t get the modem option, so…

Wait, I thought all Mavericks came with modems. I assumed they needed FordPass to activate them.

@Zenith
Yeah, they added a basic one because of the chip shortage. It’s low bandwidth, so it works for FordPass, but it won’t work as a hotspot or anything like that.

My clock didn’t change automatically either. Kind of a letdown!

My Maverick’s clock finally got back on time by itself… I guess if you just wait long enough, it corrects twice a year!

Haha, that’s one way to deal with it!

Yeah, it’s confusing. You’d think it’d be as simple as hitting a ‘set’ button, but there isn’t one. If you hit back, it reverts, so don’t do that! Instead, go to Settings > Clock, change the time, and then switch to Audio or Home. That’s what saves it.

@Lyle
Just press and hold the clock itself for a few seconds, and the clock setting menu should pop up.

I’m a little jealous—my wife’s Maverick updates automatically, but I like to keep my clocks set five minutes ahead. Her clock’s always right on time, which throws me off!

Even if it doesn’t change automatically, it’s still way easier than back in the day. I remember having to dig out the manual every time in my old ‘91 Dodge. My son once asked why I didn’t fix it, and I told him, ‘Just wait five months, it’ll be right again!’

Mine didn’t just mess up the clock, my remote start rescheduled itself to an hour back, too!

I thought I’d be annoyed changing it, but turns out it was pretty quick and easy!
