The Ford Maverick is a solid option for a compact truck. The Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Colorado are decent mid-sized options too.

They’re still bigger and more expensive than most people need. I miss the old compact trucks from the ‘70s and ‘80s.

Have you considered a used Nissan Frontier? I got a 2019 model, and it’s reliable and reasonably priced.

I already have a truck and a daily driver, but I’ll keep that in mind for the future. The Frontier is a great option.

Modern safety standards probably make it impossible to produce trucks smaller than the Maverick.

Exactly. Kei trucks are great for local errands but wouldn’t hold up on highways or in crashes.

A 2002 Tacoma was considered compact, but modern Tacomas are way bigger. Regulations pushed manufacturers to increase size while slightly improving fuel efficiency.
I really miss my old station wagon. It was perfect for almost everything.

Hatchbacks are also disappearing. Finding a good used one is tough.

I had a Mazda5 for a while, which was like a mini-minivan. It was awesome for its size but isn’t available anymore. Now I have a Ford Maverick, and it’s the smallest pickup on the market with hybrid fuel efficiency.

Station wagons were perfect. I don’t understand why they fell out of favor.
