I was supposed to pick up my 2024 XLT tomorrow, but now I see the camera recall is linked to my VIN. Is it true I can’t take the truck until Ford releases a software fix?
I was about to sign the papers to take home my 2024 XL last Friday when the news hit… they stopped the sale until further notice, so I guess you’re out of luck too.

Man, that really sucks…
@Hayes
I feel you! It’s the worst when you’re so close to getting it, and then everything just falls apart. It’s like being left hanging!

I’ve even been putting off trips just so I could drive my new truck. You know, like they used to say at work – BOHICA!
Mine has the recall too, and I got it in October. Didn’t even know they were supposed to stop sales in September, haha.
Isn’t it a bit over the top to stop all sales? The first Ford pickup was made in 1917, so we’re talking over 100 years of pickups that were fine without a backup camera. Sure, the camera helps, but it’s not like the truck doesn’t have mirrors or you can’t back up without the camera…
@Kellen
The problem is that some people trust the camera completely and will back up without even looking around. If the camera freezes and there’s someone behind them… it could be bad.

Plus, I think it’s a required safety feature. Even if we can all back up without it, it’s just a huge liability issue for Ford.

Exactly this.

I don’t get why the dealers can’t just unplug the camera and sell the trucks. It’s only a problem if you rely on the faulty image. I’d rather just drive the truck without it and get it fixed once the update comes.
@Hayes
Because it’s federally required for vehicles to have them. It’s not an optional feature anymore.
I ended up taking a risk and bought one on Saturday, but I’m waiting for the recall to be fixed before I actually pick it up. The reason is I got a really good deal from the dealership (a few grand off), but they said they couldn’t honor the deal if I waited, so I went for it. Probably wasn’t the best move, but now I’m stuck waiting.
