I placed a deposit and ordered my 2024 Ford Maverick XL, but it’s been over a year and a half of waiting. I finally got the VIN in August, and production was set for the second week of September. The truck was built and delivered to the dealership on September 30. The salesman told me to pick it up on October 11, but on that morning, they called saying the truck got scratched and had to be sent to repair. I’ve been calling every day since, but they keep saying it’s at the repair shop and they have no estimated time for the repair to be done. I’m starting to feel like they sold the truck to someone else. What should I do? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Update: I went to the dealership and talked to a saleswoman. The manager didn’t come out but gave her some information. Apparently, there was damage to the driver’s side mirror and some small scratches by the mirror. They said the mirror needs to be replaced, but nothing would show up on the truck’s record. The manager also said the damage happened during delivery, so they won’t offer any compensation because it was out of their control. I asked for the repair shop address and will head over there tomorrow since it’s already closed for the day. Still don’t get why they told me to pick it up on October 11 if it was already at the repair shop.
I’d bet it’s more than just a scratch. It sounds like it might need paint work. You should ask for pictures of the damage for your records and see if you can get a discount for the damage.
Body shops can take a while, and the dealership probably doesn’t have an ETA because the body shop won’t give them one.
You need to go to the dealership in person. Don’t rely on phone calls or texts anymore. See the truck for yourself, and if they keep giving you excuses, call Ford support. Don’t tell them you’re coming, just show up and ask to see your truck.
Trust me, they do NOT want you reporting them to Ford. You need to act quickly before they claim you refused to take the truck. If that happens, you lose your claim to it. I’m not trying to scare you, but if you don’t take possession, it’s not yours, even though you ordered it.
I showed up randomly even though I kept checking for updates online. The moment it was built, I was all over the salesperson and was there within 30 minutes of delivery to grab the keys.
This sounds like either more than a scratch or they sold the truck to someone else and are waiting for another one with the same specs. OP, show up and find out where the truck is. If it’s more than a scratch, demand a significant discount or have them order a new one. Don’t accept a truck with bodywork done—it’s going to lose value.
If it’s truly being repaired, it might take a while. Body shops aren’t fast, especially if paint is involved. Personally, I wouldn’t want the truck anymore, but that’s just me. When I buy new, I want new, not something that’s been repaired.
They’re probably not telling you the whole story. Call their bluff. Tell them you want the truck now and you’ll deal with the repair later, or ask for proof of the damage and where it’s being repaired. Ask for the shop’s address so you can go see it yourself.
I tried contacting the salesperson, but they’re off today and tomorrow. They don’t have any photos of the damage either. They said another salesperson would call me.
