Is the Maverick a good first car?

I’m currently in the market for my first car. I do a lot of mountain biking and want to get into electric dirt bikes, so I’d really like a truck. The big trucks seem scary to drive, honestly. Is the Maverick a good balance between being easy to drive and having enough space, or should I consider going up to the Ranger?

For biking and mountain bikes, it’s perfect.

The hybrid Maverick with a tow hitch sounds perfect for you.

Do you think an electric dirt bike (like a Sur-Ron) would fit in the bed? I’d prefer not to get a trailer.

Yeah, it should fit, especially with the tailgate down.

I fit my motorcycles in the bed no problem with the tailgate down. Your electric bike will fit just fine.

If you search online, you’ll find examples of people hauling motorcycles and larger e-bikes with the Maverick. It can handle more than you might think!

The Maverick sounds perfect for your needs, but I wouldn’t recommend it as a first car. A first car should be something cheap, old, and used, so you don’t mind if it gets dinged up while you’re learning.

It sounds like you’re young and eager to buy something nice. If your family is helping with insurance and gas, that’s great, but I’d still suggest starting with an older, cheaper vehicle. Save the Maverick for later once you’ve got more experience under your belt.

@Riley
Yeah, I’m young, and my family doesn’t have a big car, so I can’t bike anywhere except local trails. They’re offering to help with insurance, gas, and a down payment, so I think I can afford the monthly payments.

@Kelly
They’re fantastic. Get a hybrid—it’s super easy to drive, especially at low speeds when it’s essentially an electric car.

Does the Maverick engine sound good or have tuning potential? I love cars and would like to turbo it or put on an exhaust, but if the engine isn’t worth it, I might just go with the hybrid for the gas savings.

@Kelly
Option 2 (hybrid) is your friend. While you can mod the EcoBoost, it’s not really built for tuning to sound great or for performance. The hybrid is quiet and efficient—perfect for everyday use.

@Kelly
The hybrid isn’t really worth tuning. If you’re interested in mods, go for the EcoBoost, but honestly, the Maverick is more of a practical truck than a performance vehicle.

@Kelly
If you’re into modding, the 2.0L EcoBoost has good potential, with tuning options like the Panda Power module or Cobb Accessport. You can also add an intake or exhaust to enhance sound and performance. That said, it’s still a practical truck, not a sports car, so manage your expectations.

For your first car, I’d still suggest something cheaper to get started before investing in mods.
